The Cianci Educational Foundation is awarding two $5,000 college scholarships at the Cianci Educational Foundation's Gala on Thursday, May 11th at the Loft at Mile and a Quarter Restaurant, 334 South Water Street, Providence.

The scholarships will be awarded to two Providence residents who are members of the Class of 2017 at public and independent high schools, and high schools with religious affiliations located in the capital city.

In keeping with former Providence Mayor Vincent A. Cianci, Jr.’s intentions in establishing his Scholarship Fund back in the early 1990s, students demonstrating financial need and who display an interest in public service, the arts, or civic leadership will be given extra consideration.

A $1,000 Nicole B. Cianci Scholarship established by former Mayor Cianci in memory of his daughter in 2012, will be awarded to a senior at Providence’s School One who is selected by the faculty.

Additionally, in carrying out former Mayor Cianci’s enthusiasm for arts education, a $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a senior at the Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts (TAPA), located in downtown Providence. TAPA’s faculty will select the recipient.

The Cianci Educational Foundation raises money for scholarships through the Gala (which will include an auction of some of Mayor Cianci’s personal items), private donations, investments, and the world-famous Mayor’s Own Marinara Sauce.

Students interested in applying for one of the scholarships may do so by May 5th. The application is located here.
